A Family Legacy, 50 Years in the Making
The Gardeners was founded in 1975 by Jay Desmarais as Duxbury Gardeners — a small, family-run operation rooted in a love of the land and a commitment to craftsmanship. Over fifty years, what began as a local landscaping business grew into one of the South Shore’s most trusted names in landscape design, construction, and maintenance.
In 2025, Jay passed the torch to his sons — Matt and Kyle — continuing a legacy built one project, one relationship, and one family at a time. Under their leadership, the company is investing deeply in its people, its culture, and the craft that has defined The Gardeners for half a century.

Meet the Brothers
Kyle Desmarais
Co-Owner
Kyle Desmarais grew up watching his parents build The Gardeners from the ground up — and never stopped paying attention. Now President of both The Gardeners Landscape and H2O Irrigation, Kyle brings a business-minded approach and a builder’s instinct to everything the company does.
A Quinnipiac University School of Business graduate, Kyle is focused on growing the team from the inside out — investing in people, building a culture worth staying for, and raising the standard for what a landscape company can be for both its employees and its clients.
Matt Desmarais
Co-Owner
Matt Desmarais didn’t choose landscaping — he grew up in it. Raised on the family nursery his father founded in 1975, Matt learned the craft and the culture of this business from the ground up. After playing lacrosse at Hartwick College and spending two years coaching high school lacrosse in San Diego, he came home to Massachusetts and joined The Gardeners — eventually running the maintenance division and helping grow the company alongside his father.
In 2025, Matt and his brother Kyle officially took the reins. Together, they’re focused on building a company culture as strong as the landscapes they create — one where great people are developed, trusted, and proud of their work. Outside the office, Matt is most at home with his wife Danielle and their two daughters, Riley and Dylan, somewhere between the golf course and the beach.
